Paddle Board Rental Maui

One of the fastest growing sports here on Maui is SUP, or stand up paddle boarding. Similar to surfing, SUP is done on a long, surf inspired board. Using a paddle, you stand on the board and paddle through the ocean, catching waves if you are brave enough. One of the many reasons SUP is so popular here on Maui is it’s ease of learning. With a little balance, and a few failed attempts to help cool you off, you’ll be a pro in no time.

Once you’re a pro, it’s easy to pick out your board: just remember the shaka rule. If you’re not familiar with the shaka, it is a Hawaiian hand gesture meaning anything from ‘hello’ to ‘thank you’. Holding your thumb and pinkie out wide, curl your middle fingers downward: this is your shaka. Generally, the distance between your thumb and pinkie will be 5-7 inches, hence the name “shaka rule”. When you pick up your board, you want to make sure it is one shaka, or 5-7 inches, above your height (remember, this is for the seasoned veterans). Picking out a board for a beginner is a little different. If you are new to paddle boarding, you are going to want a nice big board. It just so happens that our Boss Frog’s shops are stocked full of rental gear and we have a board that’s just right for you.

If it’s all a little overwhelming, don’t worry. All of our agents here at Boss Frog’s can help you pick out the perfect board; from surf boards to boogie boards, they know just what you need. While you’re here you can also find snorkel gear rentals, beach chairs,  towels, sunscreen and maybe even book a Maui snorkel trip or a helicopter tour. Whatever you need for your vacation, we have you covered!
