Honaunau Bay – Two Step

Beach Location: In Pu’uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park, right next door to 84-5607 Keala O Keawe Road, Captain Cook, HI 96704

Directions and Parking: From Kona Town, drive south on Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway for 22 miles. As you drive, the name of the highway will change to Hawaii Belt Road. After Mile Marker 103, you’ll pass the Honaunau Post Office and turn right onto Keala O Keawe Road. Drive 4 miles through lava fields until you see the sign for Pu’uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park. Turn left at this sign onto Honaunau Beach Road. Drive a short ways, and take the first right onto another Honaunau Beach Road. This road runs right alongside Honaunau Bay, and the entrance to “Two Step,” the snorkeling site! Drive until the road begins to curve, make a U-turn when you can, and parallel park on the ocean side of the road. You’ve arrived at Honaunau Bay – an excellent Kona snorkeling site! To reach the water, you’ll walk across some rough lava. Depending on the tides at the moment, your path may take you around some tide pools, too.
