Going paddleboarding is a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors. But what do you do if you want to take your phone with you? Bringing your phone along can help you stay connected and capture all the memories of your trip. In this blog post, we will discuss the best ways to take your phone paddle boarding so that it stays safe and dry!
Safety First
Before you get out there, you should always have safety in mind. While paddleboarding isn’t inherently dangerous, it’s always good to be aware of your surroundings and be comfortable on the water. Waterproof Cases
One way to keep your phone dry while paddleboarding is to put it in a waterproof case. This will ensure that if you happen to fall in the water, your phone will stay dry. There are a variety of waterproof cases, especially for popular phones like iPhones and Androids. You will want to make sure the case is designed for your specific phone and seals completely.
Dry Bags
You can also put your phone in a dry bag, which is a bag that is designed to keep things dry. Dry bags come in a variety of sizes, so you can choose one that will fit your phone and any other belongings you want to bring along. You can rest the dry bag directly on the paddleboard deck, or choose a dry bag with a strap that you can sling over your shoulder like a backpack. You will want to make sure the dry bag is completely sealed before putting your phone inside.
Good Old Plastic Bag
If you don’t have either of these options, you can always put your phone in a zip-lock style plastic bag. Most zippered plastic bags will do a good job of keeping your phone dry. But as with dry bags, you will want to make sure the bag is completely sealed. And make sure your bag goes with you when you leave the beach. We don’t need any more plastic floating in the ocean.
Life Jackets With Pockets
If your phone is designed to be water-resistant, you can wear a life jacket that has a pocket for it. This way if you do fall in, your phone will be protected and close to you. Most modern phones have some level of water resistance with some being able to be submerged up to several meters. But make sure to check with your phone manufacturer before you go paddleboarding without protecting your phone.
Water Isn’t The Only Danger
The sun can be very damaging to electronics, so it’s important to keep your phone out of direct sunlight and in the shade as much as possible. Keep your phone in a dry bag, or when in a protective case or plastic bag, keep your phone in your pocket to keep it out of the sun, except for when you need it.
What To Do If Your Phone Does Get Wet?
If your phone does get wet, the best way to dry it off is to take the battery out, if possible, and put the phone in a bowl of rice. This will help absorb any moisture that has gotten into the phone. You will want to keep the phone in the bowl of rice for up to 48 hours to make sure as much of the moisture is absorbed as possible.
Once the phone is dry, you can put the battery back in and turn it on. If your phone doesn’t turn on, there are other ways to troubleshoot a wet phone, and you may want to take it to a cell phone repair company.
