Once you’ve parked, walk through the Banyan Court Mall and toward the sea to Ali’i Drive. King Kamehameha Beach is to the right of the Kailua Pier. After you cross the street and pass the pier, head down the cement path or across the brilliant white sand for some awesome Kona snorkeling!

King Kamehameha Beach is small, sheltered, and right in the middle of Kona Town. These qualities make it an excellent site for beginner snorkelers – especially those staying in Kona. The water is shallow and usually gentle, and you will find that it is home to many varieties of reef fish. Because the beach is in town, anything you might need can be found quite easily. There are restaurants, coffee shops, convenience stores, and even kayak rentals within walking distance. If you are interested in cultural sites, you’ll be pleased to know that King Kamehameha’s reconstructed temple sits nearby! This edifice can give you a glimpse into the world of the most celebrated leader in the history of the Hawaiian Kingdom.
