Bike Ride on Maui

When you’re on vacation in Maui, sometimes the best way to embrace the island vibes is by slowing things down. If you’re searching for the best place for a leisurely bike ride on Maui, the Kalama Park bike path in Kihei steals the show. This charming route serves up breathtaking ocean views, fun pit stops, and endless opportunities for recreation.Whether you’re a casual cyclist or just looking for a laid-back afternoon activity that doesn’t require getting wet, this pathway has everything you need for a memorable Maui vacation activity.

Renting a bike in Kihei and taking a leisurely ride along the coast offers the perfect blend of relaxation, exercise, and discovery. With the salty sea breeze in your hair and the rhythmic sound of waves as your soundtrack, it’s an affordable adventure at your own pace.

Renting Bikes in Kihei

Our journey starts at Boss Frogs bike rentals in Kihei at Dolphin Plaza near Kamaole Beach Park I in Kihei. Immediately, a bright pink cruiser bike catches my eye out front. I can’t help but hope it’s not just for display—and to my delight, it’s available for rent! Inside, we are greeted by a friendly staff member who helps us gear up with helmets, bike locks, and—most importantly—our rental bicycles. Of course, I snag the pink cruiser. Nothing screams coastal island vibes quite like pedaling around on a bright pink bike! For those who prefer hybrid bicycle rentals, Boss Frogs also has plenty of 21 speed bikes available.

A Leisurely Bike Ride on Maui

Kihei is incredibly bike-friendly. We discover this on the quick 10-minute ride to Kalama Park, just 1.5 miles to the north of Boss Frogs Dolphin Plaza location. The bike lane along South Kihei Road makes the journey smooth and stress-free. This short ride is the perfect warm-up to test out our brakes, adjust our seats, and get comfortable before embarking on the Kalama Park bike path.

Biking in Kalama Park

To get to the north end of the pathway from South Kihei Road, bike past Kalama Park until you reach Waimahaihai Street. Turn left, passing the Kihei Public Library, and follow the road to the end. Before turning onto Halama Street to start the Kalama Path, consider a detour to the right. This charming stretch of Halama Street is lined with hidden beach access points and cute coastal homes that’ll have you dreaming of oceanfront living. Trust me, it’s worth the quick side trip for the photo ops alone!

Once on the Kalama Park bike pathway, we’re greeted by stunning coastal views and the refreshing scent of the sea. But there’s more to this path than just the scenery. Nearby tennis, basketball courts and volleyball nets invite a quick game, while the rock wall along the ocean often draws a crowd—turtles love to sunbathe here! Keep your eyes peeled for these gentle giants enjoying the Hawaiian rays.

Kalama Park Playground

If you’ve got little ones in tow, the Kalama Park playground is a must-visit. This colorful play area features a soft, rubbery surface, making it safe and perfect for burning off energy. With slides, swings, and jungle gyms galore, your kids will be laughing and climbing to their hearts’ content.

The Cove Beach Park

A little further along, we pedal alongside The Cove—a laid-back beach that’s a hotspot for learning to surf on Maui. This is the perfect place to hop off our bikes, dip our toes in the water and watch surfers ride the gentle waves. Conveniently, there are plenty of rails near the beach to lock up bikes. We found a secluded spot in The Cove parking lot to secure our beach cruisers before heading down to the sand.

Feeling inspired after watching surfers hang ten? Boss Frogs offers surfboard rentals  and their staff can give you plenty of tips to learn to surf on Maui.

South Maui Gardens

After our bike ride, we head over to South Maui Gardens for a well-earned meal. This hidden gem is a food truck haven nestled among lush greenery, offering a relaxed vibe and delicious eats. Dining here feels like stepping into a tropical oasis. We are surrounded by vibrant plants and the soothing rustle of palm trees. The space is home to a variety of food trucks serving everything from gourmet pizzas to refreshing smoothies, mouthwatering fish tacos, and more.

To elevate the day even more, I recommend timing your visit with one of South Maui Gardens’ regular events. From live music and comedy nights to authentic luaus, there’s always something special happening. Check out the full Maui event calendar and plan your itinerary for the ultimate Kihei bike tour.
