DT Fleming Beach is well known on island as a fantastic surf spot for those experienced in the art of “surf-bathing,” as Mark Twain described it back in 1872. Even if you are not a surfer yourself, you are bound to enjoy this beach. You can bring your favorite foods to throw on the grill, ask the lifeguards any ocean questions you might have, and sit back and relax on the sand. This spot is definitely family friendly. For one thing, parking is plentiful and very close to the beach. For another, there are restrooms nearby as well as trash cans. Once you hit the beach, you will find plenty of sand for the little ones to run around on, play in, and build with.
DT Fleming is bordered by grass and trees. The nature lovers in your group will enjoy watching the local birds while keeping a weather eye on the sea for whales. Humpbacks do pass by during the winter months, and this is when the surf on Maui is strongest, too. You can enjoy both whale watching and surfer watching from shore! Remember to bring the zoom lens for your camera, if you have one. It will prove invaluable at DT Fleming Beach.
