Honolua Bay

Honolua Map
  • Overall Conditions: Small to moderate surf. Very breezy winds. Water still looking pretty calm in the protected bays for snorkeling. The large increase in predicted surf hasn’t hit yet.
  • Surf: 2-3 ft.
  • Weather: Similar to North Bays
  • Notes: Rocky shoreline sheltered bay. Use the Honolua Lookout before the bay to check conditions.  The water should be blue and you should be able to see the reef.  If the water looks “milky” or green the snorkeling will not be good.  If there are surfers on the north side of the bay the snorkeling conditions are probably poor or even dangerous.  If it has been raining the river empties brown, muddy water into the bay and you should definitely stay out of the water.

Ka'anapali Beach

Sheraton Black Rock, Airport-Kahekili Beach
  • Overall Conditions: Small surf. Breezy winds. Water has some wind ripples but the water clarity should be good.
  • Webcam: Whaler Condos Sheraton
  • Surf: 1-3 ft.
  • Weather: ENE wind 20 to 24 kt, with gusts as high as 31 kt. Scattered showers.
  • Notes: Don’t snorkel directly under Black Rock, you don’t want to get jumped on. Turtles as usual. Don’t forget they are protected so give them space but enjoy. If you venture around Black Rock stay close to shore. Watch for surge along the rocks.

Olowalu Mile Marker 14

Black Rock, Kahekili-Airport Beach
  • Overall Conditions: Breezy winds. Small surf.
  • Weather: Sunny, with a high near 79. Calm wind becoming west southwest 5 to 7 mph.
  • Notes: Give the turtles some space and don’t get your car stuck in the sand.  There is a sand channel that goes through the reef across the highway from the Mile Marker 14 post that is the easiest place to swim out.
