Honolua Bay

Honolua Map
  • Overall Conditions: Similar to the north bays. Mild winds. Large surf. Water clarity clarity will be decreased. Watch for surge along rocks if you decide to brave it.
  • Surf: 3-4 ft.
  • Weather: Similar to North Bays
  • Notes: Rocky shoreline sheltered bay. Use the Honolua Lookout before the bay to check conditions.  The water should be blue and you should be able to see the reef.  If the water looks “milky” or green the snorkeling will not be good.  If there are surfers on the north side of the bay the snorkeling conditions are probably poor or even dangerous.  If it has been raining the river empties brown, muddy water into the bay and you should definitely stay out of the water.

Ka'anapali Beach

Sheraton Black Rock, Airport-Kahekili Beach
  • Overall Conditions: Mild winds. North swell is hitting this area too. Watch for surge along the rocks, strong shore break and decreased water clarity.
  • Webcam: Whaler Condos Sheraton
  • Surf: 2-3 ft.
  • Weather: Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming NE 5 to 10 kt in the morning. Sunny.
  • Notes: Don’t snorkel directly under Black Rock, you don’t want to get jumped on. Turtles as usual. Don’t forget they are protected so give them space but enjoy. If you venture around Black Rock stay close to shore. Watch for surge along the rocks.

Olowalu Mile Marker 14

Black Rock, Kahekili-Airport Beach
  • Overall Conditions: Calm winds. Small surf. Should be clearing up after the storm.
  • Weather: N wind 7 to 15 kt, with gusts as high as 22 kt. Sunny.
  • Notes: Give the turtles some space and don’t get your car stuck in the sand.  There is a sand channel that goes through the reef across the highway from the Mile Marker 14 post that is the easiest place to swim out.
