Honolua Bay

Honolua Map
  • Overall Conditions: Lower winds in this area today. Be careful with some surge along the rocks.
  • Surf: 2-3ft.
  • Weather: Scattered showers, mainly before noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Breezy, with an east northeast wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  • Notes: Rocky shoreline sheltered bay. Use the Honolua Lookout before the bay to check conditions.  The water should be blue and you should be able to see the reef.  If the water looks “milky” or green the snorkeling will not be good.  If there are surfers on the north side of the bay the snorkeling conditions are probably poor or even dangerous.  If it has been raining the river empties brown, muddy water into the bay and you should definitely stay out of the water.

Olowalu Mile Marker 14

Black Rock, Kahekili-Airport Beach
  • Overall Conditions:  Lower wind although some smaller waves in the area will cause some cloudiness in the water.
  • Weather: Similar to South Maui.
  • Notes: Give the turtles some space and don’t get your car stuck in the sand.  There is a sand channel that goes through the reef across the highway from the Mile Marker 14 post that is the easiest place to swim out.
