Honolua Bay

Honolua Map
  • Overall Conditions: Moderate surf. Calm winds. Deep in the bay may be snorkelable however there may be some runoff from the river. Head south for safer conditions.
  • Surf: 2-3 ft.
  • Weather: Similar to North Bays
  • Notes: Rocky shoreline sheltered bay. Use the Honolua Lookout before the bay to check conditions.  The water should be blue and you should be able to see the reef.  If the water looks “milky” or green the snorkeling will not be good.  If there are surfers on the north side of the bay the snorkeling conditions are probably poor or even dangerous.  If it has been raining the river empties brown, muddy water into the bay and you should definitely stay out of the water.

Ka'anapali Beach

Sheraton Black Rock, Airport-Kahekili Beach
  • Overall Conditions: Small surf. Calm winds. Conditions are a bit bumpy but not too bad. A north swell is predicted to fill in later so watch for surge along the rocks and increased surf conditions as the day progresses. It should be fairly nice here when it warms up.
  • Webcam: Whaler Condos Sheraton
  • Surf: 1-2 ft.
  • Weather: Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming WSW 5 to 8 kt. Sunny.
  • Notes: Don’t snorkel directly under Black Rock, you don’t want to get jumped on. Turtles as usual. Don’t forget they are protected so give them space but enjoy. If you venture around Black Rock stay close to shore. Watch for surge along the rocks.

Olowalu Mile Marker 14

Black Rock, Kahekili-Airport Beach
  • Overall Conditions: Calm winds. Small surf. May be nice here but watch for decreased water clarity due to rain runoff.
  • Weather: Sunny, with a high near 78. Northeast wind 7 to 11 mph.
  • Notes: Give the turtles some space and don’t get your car stuck in the sand.  There is a sand channel that goes through the reef across the highway from the Mile Marker 14 post that is the easiest place to swim out.
