Honolua Bay

Honolua Map
  • Overall Conditions: High Surf advisory in effect for North and West facing shores. Better to head south to snorkel.
  • Surf: 4-6+ ft.
  • Weather: Sunny, with a high near 78. Calm wind becoming north northeast 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.
  • Notes: Rocky shoreline sheltered bay. Use the Honolua Lookout before the bay to check conditions.  The water should be blue and you should be able to see the reef.  If the water looks “milky” or green the snorkeling will not be good.  If there are surfers on the north side of the bay the snorkeling conditions are probably poor or even dangerous.  If it has been raining the river empties brown, muddy water into the bay and you should definitely stay out of the water.

Ka'anapali Beach

Sheraton Black Rock, Airport-Kahekili Beach
  • Overall Conditions:  Similar to yesterday with the waves causing visibility problems. South side of Black Rock looks ok but stay close to shore. Currents are very strong out at the point.
  • Webcam: Whaler condo. Sheraton
  • Surf: 1-2 ft.
  • Weather: Sunny, with a high near 81. Calm wind becoming northeast 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.
  • Notes: Don’t snorkel directly under Black Rock, you don’t want to get jumped on. Turtles as usual. Don’t forget they are protected so give them space but enjoy. If you venture around Black Rock stay close to shore. Watch for surge along the rocks.

Olowalu Mile Marker 14

Black Rock, Kahekili-Airport Beach
  • Overall Conditions:   Protected area from the swell. Looks pretty good this morning.
  • Weather: Sunny, with a high near 80. Light and variable wind.
  • Notes: Give the turtles some space and don’t get your car stuck in the sand.  There is a sand channel that goes through the reef across the highway from the Mile Marker 14 post that is the easiest place to swim out.
