Honolua Bay

Honolua Map
  • Overall Conditions: Northwest swell starting to drop a little. Still some waves though so still better to go south today.
  • Surf: 2-3 ft.
  • Weather: Mostly sunny, with a high near 76. Breezy, with an east northeast wind 18 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
  • Notes: Rocky shoreline sheltered bay. Use the Honolua Lookout before the bay to check conditions.  The water should be blue and you should be able to see the reef.  If the water looks “milky” or green the snorkeling will not be good.  If there are surfers on the north side of the bay the snorkeling conditions are probably poor or even dangerous.  If it has been raining the river empties brown, muddy water into the bay and you should definitely stay out of the water.

Ka'anapali Beach

Sheraton Black Rock, Airport-Kahekili Beach
  • Overall Conditions: South side of Black Rock looks good today. Still some waves present and stronger currents away from shore.
  • Webcam: Whaler Condos Sheraton
  • Surf: 1-2 ft.
  • Weather: Sunny, with a high near 79. Breezy, with an east northeast wind 13 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
  • Notes: Don’t snorkel directly under Black Rock, you don’t want to get jumped on. Turtles as usual. Don’t forget they are protected so give them space but enjoy. If you venture around Black Rock stay close to shore. Watch for surge along the rocks.

Olowalu Mile Marker 14

Black Rock, Kahekili-Airport Beach
  • Overall Conditions: Calmer winds in this area. Still some smaller waves in the area causing visibility issues.
  • Weather: Sunny, with a high near 79. Northeast wind 8 to 13 mph.
  • Notes: Give the turtles some space and don’t get your car stuck in the sand.  There is a sand channel that goes through the reef across the highway from the Mile Marker 14 post that is the easiest place to swim out.

  • Overall Conditions: Some small waves coming in. Kamaole Beaches and Ulua Beach look the best in this area today.
  • Webcams: Kihei Cove Park, Sugar Beach, Kalama Park, Grand Wailea, Mana Kai
  • Surf: 1-2 ft.
  • Weather: Sunny, with a high near 83. Breezy, with a north wind 11 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
  • Notes: Beach locations tend to be stirred up more than the south most locations. It’s best to get out early as the winds can significantly affect this area in the afternoon.
