Honolua Bay

Honolua Map
  • Overall Conditions: Small north swell moving water around. Watch for surge along the rocks. Water visibility may be decreased. Calm winds this morning.
  • Surf: 1-3ft.
  • Weather: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. East northeast wind 5 to 8 mph.
  • Notes: Rocky shoreline sheltered bay. Use the Honolua Lookout before the bay to check conditions.  The water should be blue and you should be able to see the reef.  If the water looks “milky” or green the snorkeling will not be good.  If there are surfers on the north side of the bay the snorkeling conditions are probably poor or even dangerous.  If it has been raining the river empties brown, muddy water into the bay and you should definitely stay out of the water.

Olowalu Mile Marker 14

Black Rock, Kahekili-Airport Beach
  • Overall Conditions:  Calm winds. Small surf in the area.
  • Weather: Similar to South Maui.
  • Notes: Give the turtles some space and don’t get your car stuck in the sand.  There is a sand channel that goes through the reef across the highway from the Mile Marker 14 post that is the easiest place to swim out.
