Honolua Bay

Honolua Map
  • Overall Conditions: Breezy winds, small surf. Inside the bay might be nice if there is not too much run off from the river.
  • Surf: 1-2ft.
  • Weather: E wind around 18 kt. Showers likely, mainly before noon. WSW swell 0 ft at 0 seconds.
  • Notes: Rocky shoreline sheltered bay. Use the Honolua Lookout before the bay to check conditions.  The water should be blue and you should be able to see the reef.  If the water looks “milky” or green the snorkeling will not be good.  If there are surfers on the north side of the bay the snorkeling conditions are probably poor or even dangerous.  If it has been raining the river empties brown, muddy water into the bay and you should definitely stay out of the water.

Olowalu Mile Marker 14

Black Rock, Kahekili-Airport Beach
  • Overall Conditions:  Light winds and small surf. Water may be dirty. Avoid this spot today if you can easily find a different spot.
  • Weather: Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming ENE 7 to 12 kt in the afternoon. Scattered showers, mainly before noon.
  • Notes: Give the turtles some space and don’t get your car stuck in the sand.  There is a sand channel that goes through the reef across the highway from the Mile Marker 14 post that is the easiest place to swim out.
