Honolua Bay

Honolua Map
  • Overall Conditions: Similar to North bays. Swell is building. Inside the bay may be snorkelable this morning but be aware the surf may be building.
  • Surf: 2-3 ft.
  • Weather: Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming W around 6 kt. Mostly sunny.
  • Notes: Rocky shoreline sheltered bay. Use the Honolua Lookout before the bay to check conditions.  The water should be blue and you should be able to see the reef.  If the water looks “milky” or green the snorkeling will not be good.  If there are surfers on the north side of the bay the snorkeling conditions are probably poor or even dangerous.  If it has been raining the river empties brown, muddy water into the bay and you should definitely stay out of the water.

Ka'anapali Beach

Sheraton Black Rock, Airport-Kahekili Beach
  • Overall Conditions: Calm winds. Small surf. Water is not as calm today but overall it is still looking nice. The increase in the North surf isn’t hitting here yet.
  • Webcam: Whaler Condos Sheraton
  • Surf: 1-2 ft.
  • Weather: Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming NNE 5 to 7 kt in the afternoon. Scattered showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon.
  • Notes: Don’t snorkel directly under Black Rock, you don’t want to get jumped on. Turtles as usual. Don’t forget they are protected so give them space but enjoy. If you venture around Black Rock stay close to shore. Watch for surge along the rocks.

Olowalu Mile Marker 14

Black Rock, Kahekili-Airport Beach
  • Overall Conditions: Calm winds. Small surf. water may be a bit bumpy but it should not be too rough.
  • Weather: Sunny, with a high near 79. Northeast wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon.
  • Notes: Give the turtles some space and don’t get your car stuck in the sand.  There is a sand channel that goes through the reef across the highway from the Mile Marker 14 post that is the easiest place to swim out.
